Encaustic Painting Basics with Suzanne Bell – June 3, 2018

Encaustic – Basics &  Beyond (Level I).  The ancient art of encaustic painting is a 3,000 year old art form consisting of melted bees wax, tree resin and pigments for color. The magic of this medium can be seen as the colorful molten wax begins to move freely creating a beautiful luminescent work of art.

This workshop focuses on encaustic safety, studio set up, the history of encaustics, along with several painting techniques: fusing with an iron, heat gun and blow torch; stylus and scraping to discover the layers of colorful wax; carving to define shapes; fun textures, taping for line and design.

Lots of tools and gadgets, effects of joss paper, gold leafing, oil sticks, color mixing and much, much more. Students will complete several encaustic masterpieces ready for showing!

Date & Time: Sunday, June 3, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
Cost: $95 per person;  supplies fee $45 payable to instructor in class
