Encaustic Painting – Textures & Papers
(Beginning/Intermediate)

Expand your encaustic horizons! We’ll focus on the more advanced textural & collage techniques available in the encaustic art world, such as, fun papers, fabulous fabrics, joint compound, impressions, stamping, oil staining, antiquing, image transfers, embedded elements, water designs, charcoal, metallic powders, stencils, stylus, pastels, inks, embellishments and so much more, oh my! Students will complete several encaustic masterpieces ready for showing. Dress for mess and come to have fun! All supplies provided!

Creating Stitched & HDR Photo Basics

Learn the basics on how to create Stitched and HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. This class will include presentations covering Stitched and HDR photo creation, hands on exercises with sample photos provided and photos taken inside or outside by students (depending on weather conditions). Students will have a chance to ask questions throughout the course.

  • All individuals attending this class must know how to operate their equipment (computer, camera and any accessories).
  • The following materials are provided by the instructor: sample photos for both Stitching and HDR exercises; Microsoft ICE & Photomatix Trial version.
  • Additional equipment and accessories required: Laptop with Windows 7 or 10 installed, charging cable, external mouse (if desired), and the ability to access files through the Internet, & USB device. Camera with manual modes, preferably a DSLR or mirrorless, any additional camera & lens accessories (if desired), fully charged batteries & tripod.  Please bring a lunch, snacks and drinks (no adult beverages).

Acrylic Pours Unleashed – “Lift Off” – SOLD OUT

“Lift off ” is the theme for the day, and you’re going to love Christina’s techniques! Learn how to create your own magical acrylic pour with just a few simple steps, plan to get messy, and let loose! There are a ton of videos out there, but why watch a video when you can create your own. Metallic paints are a must and glitter is a plus! Bring your canvas (1 or more), a handful of paints, an apron, plus a few items listed below along with your  imagination! With new theme-based guidance and many tools of the trade, you’ll have lots of freedom to explore your own imagination and create awesome pours!

Supplies provided by Christina: Torch, silicone spray, gloves, baby wipes, cups, paints, tins, Floetrol and a few other items you may need or want to try.

Additional materials required (bring to class): Canvas (2 to 3 canvases no larger than 9″ x 12″). Bring more than one if you want, but keep in mind these will be very wet when you go home. If you have a large canvas you will need to provide your own tray to fit the canvas. Also, an apron plus any special paints you wish to use is up to you.

Mixed Media – Demure Marie

Demure Marie aka Marie Antoinette is a mixed media rendition by Christina Miles. Learn how she put this piece together step by step to create your own piece. Please direct all questions about the class to  christina@wingsnscales.com 

Mixed media is one of Christina’s favorite styles of creating, and she is going to share with you the little tricks of the trade with this beautiful project. This is her original design which she will be sharing with you. In this class, you will be painting, gluing, using Plaster of Paris, prisma color pencils and, if time allows, encaustic wax.  All materials and supplies needed to create this project are supplied by Christina including: 12″ x 12″ birch panel, paints, plaster, brushes, stylus, prisma colored pencils, printed papers (line drawing of face, and print of flowers used for the hair), encaustic wax, heat guns, and other supplies you may wish to try.

Optional items to bring to class: Any special paints you would like to use, plus an apron and lunch.

Lovey Dovey, a Valentine’s theme to get messy with. Your creations are not limited! Bring your own substrates to paint on and watch the magic begin! Direct all questions about the class  christina@wingsnscales.com

To change things up, Chris has made some changes on how she teaches these classes. With theme-based guidance, you will have more freedom to explore your own imagination. Chris will be providing so many tools of the trade to choose from, your pours will be awesome!

Lovey Dovey is a color based theme. You will be creating a pour with reds, pinks whites, and purples — and maybe a hint of black — all Valentine related colors of your choice. You choose your own design. Whether they are hearts, heart-shaped canvases or word pieces, it’s your creation. Materials provided by Christina: Torch, silicone spray, gloves, baby wipes, cups, paints, tins, Floetrol and a few other items you may need or want to try.

Supplies to bring to class: For this theme, bring anything heart shaped such as a wood, tin, or even paper mache. It’s your choice for the surface or material. Make sure you have your pieces coated with gesso before bringing them to class unless it’s canvas, which needs no prepping. Also, an apron and any special paints you wish to use.

This class is all about making painted rings...it is fascinating to watch your paints flow and grow. Color plays a huge part in this technique. Bring your ideas and let’s see if we can make them come to life! Materials provided by Christina: Torch, silicone spray, gloves, baby wipes, cups, paints, tins, Floetrol and a few other items you may need or want to try.

Supplies to bring to classYour material or surface is your choice — wood, canvas, metal — all can be used for beautiful pours It is what you picture in your mind as to what you want your rings to be painted on. . Make sure you have your surfaces prepped with Gesso before class, unless you are using canvas. Canvas does not need to be prepped. Please limit your surfaces to no more than 3 and no larger than 9″ x 12″. Also, an apron and any special paints you wish to use.

*Registration Cancellations & Refunds

Enrollment. Class registration may be completed online or in person at the Vacaville Art Gallery. An instructor may require a minimum and maximum number of students, so please check the instructor’s detailed information.  Registration is complete only after payment has been received online, at the gallery, or paid directly to the instruction prior to the class date.

Cancellation.  If you cannot attend the class, you may send someone in your place (please advise the gallery of the change).  If you cancel enrollment seven (7) or more days prior to the start of the class, credit will be given for a future class in the full amount of the class you cancelled. If you cancel enrollment 48 hours prior to the start of class – or you do not show up for the class  – no credit will be given.  If the Instructor’s minimum is not met, the class may cancelled by the Instructor with at least a 2-day notice and a full refund will be given.
